Airfix does it again- a great 1/72 scale kit! I’ve already built their new-tool Spitfires, and the Hurricane too. So I was very excited to see this model hit their lineup. It’s typical of their more recent efforts in this scale. The parts look great. The panel lines are a bit heavy. Cockpit detail is …
I finished the Fujimi Mk. Vb today. It’s not a bad kit at all. I’d read some pretty harsh criticism’s, but generally it was the usual rivet counter garbage. Rivet counters exist, I think, not to build models, but to be hyper-critical of models. It’s one thing to recognize where a kit may have shortcomings. …
Great video of a restored, very early Spitfire Mk. I. I’d have embedded right on the home page, but it autoplays, so I decided to add in click through to see it.
This is a great little short run kit. Some of the nicest detailing of any 1/72nd Spitfire I’ve seen on the cockpit sidewalls. Fit is good. Needs a little filler here and there, but not too bad, especially given that it’s short run kit. Highly recommended!
As I looked over my list of completed Spitfires, it was not lost on me that of the 40 Spitfires I’ve built since returning to the hobby in 2006, 17 have been Airfix. The most of any other manufacturer I’ve built has been 4, that being Hasegawa. In fact, unless I’ve missed on my count, …
The gloss coat is on Airfix’s 1/72Mk. II, and the 3d-Kits conversion to an LR worked great. The 3D-Kits supplied decals went down very nicely. They are high quality, and responded well to Solvaset. This will be a nice kit to have on the shelf when it’s done. Not your usual Spitfire!
Sword’s little PR Mk. IV has gone together great. It did take some filler along the aft underside wing/fuselage join, but not much. The only real problem I had was self-induced: I glued the clear resin canopy on slightly crooked…. with CA. So it’s there. She’s got a coat of Future and is ready for …
I just started Italeri’s 1/48 Mk. XVIe. it gets a few knocks for it’s shape, but I’m liking this kit. I also built their Mk. IX “American Aces” boxing, and quite enjoyed it also. Enough so that I bought another one. I did add a few scratch built details to the cockpit, just to jazz …
One of the more prominent features of the starboard sidewall in a Spitfire is the remote contactor and contactor switch. This was a part of the IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) system. Some models have this already built in, so simply painting it will suffice. other may not have this detail included. As it is so …
